Figurative Language - Student Choice

You will now be writing your own figurative language about your choice of topic (a birthday party, a specific holiday, your favourite season etc...)  or you may use one of the photos below as your inspiration.






STEP #1:
Write seven statements about your topic, one for each type of figurative language:
simile
metaphor
idiom
alliteration
hyperbole
onomatopoeia
personification

STEP #2:
Play around with the order of your seven figurative language statements. Find an order that you like, in order to form a poem about your topic.

STEP #3:
Write a draft of your poem, with the seven figurative language statements in the order that you wish. LABEL each statement with it's type of figurative language.

STEP #4:
Create an illustrated good copy of your poem. Include an appropriate title.
RUBRIC:
Level 4 - The poem includes one of each type of figurative language (correct), about a specific topic, which is worded in an original way.
Level 3 - The poem includes one of each type of figurative language (correct), about a specific topic, the wording may be chopping or unoriginal.
Level 2 - The poem includes 4-6 correct examples of figurative language, about a specific topic.
Level 1 - The poem includes 1-3 correct examples of figurative language, about a specific topic OR several correct statements that are not reflective of the chosen topic.
